The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities will hold its annual Fall Clean-up Week for BPU Solid Waste customers the week of Sept. 8-12.
Fall cleanup will occur on each resident's normal garbage day during the week. Customers should place their clean-up items at the curb after 6 p.m. the night before their regularly scheduled pick-up. Cleanup items, whenever possible, should be contained in plastic garbage bags.
Regular garbage will be collected as usual during fall cleanup, along with glass recyclables.
The utility will accept disposable items weighing less than 40 pounds and easily handled by one person, such as: clothes, dishes, glassware, pots and pans, toys, wallpaper, carpet remnants cut in small pieces, old lawn furniture, garden hoses and kitchen chairs.
A fee and an appointment are required for large item and electronics curbside pick-up. Call the Garbage Hotline at 661-1651 in advance to arrange an appointment for proper disposal of large items such as mattresses, couches, refrigerators, recliners, stoves; and of electronics such as televisions, computer monitors and microwaves. Residents who place such items at the curb without an appointment will be charged an extra fee.
Metal and wood items are not collected by the BPU but may be taken to the South County Transfer Station on South Work Street in Falconer for disposal. Hours for the South County Transfer Station are available by calling 665-6894.
Yard waste will not be collected and may be taken to the Monroe Street Yard Waste Site which is open from 4-7 p.m. Wednesdays and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. Solid Waste customers must have orange 2014 Yard Waste Site stickers, one per Solid Waste account, affixed to their vehicle windows in order to enter the Site. The stickers may be obtained at the BPU Customer Service office, open 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays, at 92 Steele St.
Any questions regarding fall cleanup may be answered by calling the BPU Garbage Hotline at 661-1651.
