Darleen M. Skinner, 68, of Cassadaga, N.Y., died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, at home, with her loving family at her side.
Darleen was born Sept. 26, 1945, in Dunkirk, N.Y., to the late Joseph Smoczynski and Rose M. (Bel-lanca) SmoczynskiBragg.
A local resident her entire life, she graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1963.
She was married 42 years to George H. Skinner of Cassadaga, who died Aug. 4, 2006.
Darleen worked as a sales clerk at several local businesses. She was best known from her waitressing at Your Host Restaurant in the D&F Plaza. In her younger years, she was a member of The Shumla Mother's Club and The Women of the Moose. She was also a member of the Moonlighters Skating Club and the Dunkirk RollArena Artistic Skating Club, where she achieved Gold Medal proficiency status and received several competitive awards. She also enjoyed bingo and going to area casinos. She especially enjoyed spending time with her loving family.
Darleen is survived by her children: Michael Skinner of Erie, Pa., Rosella (Scott) Lewis of Cassadaga, Betty Jo Skinner of Fredonia, and Christopher Skinner of Cassadaga; nine grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Jane (Ron) Szach of Dunkirk; and multiple nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her stepfather, Oliver "Pat" Bragg; and an infant sister, Arleen.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Darleen's memory may be made to your local volunteer fire department or a cancer foundation of your choice.
Calls may be made Monday (Labor Day) from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the LARSONTIMKO Funeral Home, 20 Central Ave., Fredonia, N.Y. Prayers will be offered Tuesday morning at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Church, Dunkirk, N.Y., at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the Christian Cemetery, Shumla Road, Cassadaga, N.Y.
