CLYMER - An alleged drunk driver sent an Amish woman and her child to UPMC Hamot on Friday evening after an accident in Clymer.
Chautauqua County Sheriff's deputies responded to the area of Route 474 and Wickwire Road at 7 p.m. for a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a horse and buggy.
Upon arrival, deputies learned that Ann C. Beebe, 67, of Panama, was driving westbound on Route 474 when she allegedly struck the horse and buggy, also traveling westbound. The buggy was occupied by two adults and four children. The adult woman and a child were taken by ground to UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pa., while the adult male and three other children were evaluated at the scene and did not require further treatment.
Investigation determined that Beebe was operating her vehicle in an intoxicated condition at the time she struck the horse and buggy. She was taken into custody and charged with driving while intoxicated, speed not reasonable, failure to use care while approaching a horse and imprudent speed while approaching a horse.
The investigation is continuing and additional charges are pending.
Beebe will answer to the charges in Town of Clymer Court at a later date.
The sheriff's office was assisted by Clymer, Sherman and Panama volunteer fire departments at the scene.
