Mary L. Chase Hedstrom, 92, a resident of the Watson Home for the past year and formerly of Frontier Drive in Youngsville, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, at the Watson Home in Warren.
Born on Dec. 26, 1921, in Corry, she was the daughter of Frank and Ida Goodwill Chase. She was married to Carl Harold Hedstrom, who preceded her in death on Aug 3, 1999, and whom she married Jan. 17, 1941, in Youngsville.
Mary was retired from her employment after 27 years of service in the mailing department of Blair in Warren. She was a member of Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church. In her younger years, she was an accomplished cook and loved to bake pies and bread. She very much enjoyed going shopping and eating out.
Surviving is a son, Carl "Bud" (Betty) Hedstrom of Rock Hill, S.C.; two daughters: Carol (James) Phelps of Youngsville, Genevieve (Alfie) Hedstrom Reiff of Stage Coach, Nev.; four grandchildren: JoAnn Hedstrom of Charlotte, N.C., James (Amy) Hedstrom of Rock Hill, S.C., Donna (Frank) Pastrick of Chandlers Valley, and Mark Phelps of Youngsville; four great-grandchildren: Alahana and Logan Pastrick of Chandlers Valley, and Mitchell and Emily Hedstrom of Rock Hill, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Pickering; a grandson, Gregory Pickering; a daughter-in- law, Dorothy Martin Hedstrom; four sisters: Jean, Gwendolyn, Betty, and Rilla; and four brothers, Frank, Harold, Paul and Alston.
Friends will be received on Thursday, Aug. 14, at McKinney Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. in Youngsville, from 4-7 p.m. where a funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Billy Hughes officiating.
Burial will follow in Mission Covenant Cemetery in Chandlers Valley. The family suggests those wishing to place memorials may do so to American Cancer Society; or the Warren County Humane Society.
