Area residents who may have grown up watching "Saved By The Bell" need look no further than downtown Jamestown to find one of the show's most iconic characters this weekend.
Dustin Diamond, best known for his role as "Screech" on the program, will appear at The Q for an hour-long performance of stand-up comedy in the nightclub portion of the establishment on Saturday.
The show will begin at 7 p.m. with a brief opening act by Cleveland comedian Quinn Patterson. It is anticipated that Diamond will begin his routine by 7:30. The show was booked by Justin Lindell, owner of The Q, who said securing Diamond for an evening of comedy in Jamestown is an accomplishment in and of itself given the celebrity's busy schedule.
Dustin Diamond, best known for his role as Screech on “Saved By The Bell,” will appear at The Q on Saturday.
"We were kind of lucky to get this show to happen because (Diamond) is essentially booked for the entire year," Lindell said. "I was approached about it because he was in the area, and this weekend is the only weekend - aside from one in November - he was available."
Notable for booking an assortment of professional athletes, musicians and celebrities in Jamestown, Lindell said The Q has become known as a stopping point in the Western New York area.
"It means a lot to me that I could make this happen," he said. "I love to bring events like this to Jamestown, and it's a really positive thing to get someone like (Diamond) here."
Adding to the draw of having "Screech" in Jamestown is the fact that tickets to the performance will be free, though donations are strongly encouraged as Lindell said he is researching local charities to which he will forward the money. Lindell requested that everyone who claims a ticket for the show make sure they honor that ticket to ensure that each ticket is accounted for. The tickets will be available by calling The Q at 483-6256, or by visiting the club at 104 W. Second St. Hours in which tickets will be available for pickup are from 4 p.m. to midnight today, from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday and beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday.
