Recently I had the pleasure of participating in the Grow Jamestown program. You may have noticed the signs around town. The purpose of these signs is to show recognition, not set up a competition. The city is divided up into neighborhood areas. This insures that each house is viewed in the context of their neighborhood, not the entire city. Every team of three people was given a basic criteria to ensure the same standards. There were so many houses with wonderful gardens and many homeowners making an effort to improve their property.
It was difficult task at times for my team to choose. I am proud of all the residents who are beautifying their property, regardless if there is a sign in their yard or not. I look at the goal of this program is to encourage people to enjoy and take pride in gardening, not matter what the style and size.
