The body of the late Air National Guardsman William "Bill" Sager Jr. returned to his hometown of Silver Creek late Tuesday morning for his final resting place. About 175 residents lined Main Street holding U.S. flags and signs reading "Pray for Billy Jr." to pay tribute to their hometown hero during his funeral procession from Hamburg. An honor guard from Buffalo area American Legion and VFW groups presented flags as the hearse carrying Sager passed by. A private burial took place in the early afternoon in Glenwood Cemetery. Sager, 28, died last Thursday from devastating head injuries he suffered during an assault at a Buffalo bar in May; he remained in a coma for about two months, up until his death.
