ASHVILLE - The friends and family of Kelly Mersch have organized a benefit on his behalf.
The event will be Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Ashville Fire District Building, 5338 Stow Road in Ashville.
It will feature a spaghetti dinner, basket drawings and a ticket drawing for a large-screen TV, laptop and muzzle loader.
Mersch was recently diagnosed with Level-2 Myelodysplastic Syndrome, a cancer in which bone marrow does not make enough healthy blood cells and there are abnormal cells in the blood and/or marrow. The only treatment is a bone marrow transplant.
Currently, Mersch is receiving chemo treatments to try to slow the progression of the disease until a donor is found and the transplant can take place.
Mersch is a first-shift shipping team member at Cummins Jamestown Engine Plant and has worked at the plant for 12 years. He is also a member of the Panama Baptist Church.
His family members also work at the plant, including his brother-in-law Dale Lundmark, his niece Jennifer Lundmark and his nephews Bobby and Josh Lundmark.

Donations to the "Kelly Mersch Fund" can be given at any Community Bank location in the area.
