Grace A. Jones, 87, died Monday, June 30, 2014, at Gowanda Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.
She was born Sept. 1, 1926, in Forestville, N.Y., the daughter of the late Robert and Ina (Ball) Max-son.
She assisted with Red Cross blood drives, was a member of the Cattaraugus Women's Civic League and promoted their arts and music awards program, and a member of the Let's Travel Club. She was heavily involved with 4-H, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts as cookie chairman.
Grace was curator of the Cattaraugus Historical Society, doing school tours and window displays. She worked with the Cattaraugus Senior Citizens and Cattaraugus Community Action, and attended Cattaraugus United Methodist Church.
Grace will be remembered for her assistance to children, including kids' cooking classes and the Foster Grandparents Program.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Fay E. Jones of Cattaraugus, N.Y.; four sons: Dana (Sara) Jones of Little Valley, Andrew (Phyllis Lincoln) Jones of Otto, Gary (Mary Lou) Jones of Gowanda, and John Jones of Coppers Cove, Texas; her daughter, Linda Jones of Gowanda, N.Y.; two sisters: Irene (Edward) Waxham of Forestville, and Alta Rebis of Decator, Ga.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her, brother Lee Maxson.
Visitation will be held Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Hills Funeral Chapel, 55 S. Main St, Cattaraugus, N.Y., from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 7, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Hills Funeral Chapel. Pastor Becky Ward of the Cattaraugus and East Leon United Methodist Churches, will be officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Park Cemetery in Cattaraugus.
