Family and friends will hold a benefit for Denny Baker in the Celoron Legion, Jackson Avenue, Celoron, on Sunday, July 27, from noon-4 p.m.
Baker was diagnosed with Stage IV rectal cancer in November 2012, which has metastasized to his lungs and invaded his blood stream. A well-known concrete mason in the Chautauqua County area, he has been employed by Lake Shore Paving and Concrete for over seven years and has completed numerous concrete jobs with his father and other concrete masons in the area. He endured a lungectomy, six months of chemotherapy in Roswell Park Cancer Center, chemotherapy and radiation in Olean General Hospital and is currently receiving a second round of chemotherapy locally for another six months.
A Chinese auction, 50/50 drawings and a spaghetti dinner will be provided, along with a cash bar. Music will be by Randy Graham, a member of the Porcelain Busdrivers and Rod Welling of STB. Tickets are available at Lake Shore Paving, 664-4400; Image Embroidery, Lakewood, 763-0090; or at the door. The cost is a $10 donation and children under age 10 are free. Proceeds will be used to help the family with mounting medical and household bills.
