BUSTI - After an exceptionally long, cold, brutal winter full of rumors and speculation regarding Stateline Speedway, racing engines will again roar tonight when the Night of Champions presented by Fastenal, will take place at the historic oval.
The fan gates will swing open at 5 p.m. and the cars will take to the track for practice, one class at a time, at 7 p.m. After each class has had one 10-minute session, the front stretch will have the awards ceremony to honor the top 10 of each class for the 2013 season.
At the conclusion of the awards the track will again be used for a second "test 'n tune" session under the lights.
Admission to the newly-refurbished grandstand will be free, but there will be a nominal pit insurance fee of $15 per person. Full concessions will be available in the main seating area and in the pits.
The pit gates will open at 3 p.m. with track prep finalized by 6:30 p.m. for packing before the "test ''n tune" at 7 p.m.
Driver registration forms will be available at the track. Drivers are reminded that raceceivers are required for all classes and transponders are required for Super Late Models, Crate Late Models and E-Mods.
Among improvements being implemented are a new public address system, renovations to bleachers on both sides of the track, refurbished concession stands and a coat of paint for many areas of the facility. Several specialized smartphone apps are being designed as well as a new website that is now available at racestateline.com/. A new era at Stateline will begin on July 5 under the ownership of Bill and Lynne Catania with the season opening Papa Don Frank Memoria, presented by Carter Lumber, a special event for the Super Late Models followed by fireworks by Gibson Fireworks.
There will be gree Stateline Speedway T-Shirts and decals for the first 200 fans in attendance to celebrate the grand re-opening.
Several special events are being planned for the remainder of the season with at least one special race for each of the seven classes. A tentative schedule is posted at racestateline.com/schedule/
Stateline Speedway races every Saturday night with gates opening at 5 p.m. and the first heat getting the green flag at 7 p.m.. Adult admission for regular racing events is $12 with seniors 62 and over $10, students 6-16 $8 and under 6 are free.
