Ferris Earle Woleben, 95, of Webster Road, West-field, N.Y., passed away after a short illness on Sunday morning, June 15, 2014, at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, N.Y., with his loving family by his side.
Ferris was born on Sept. 15, 1918, in Westfield, N.Y., to Jay and Bernice Wilber Woleben.
He lived in the West Portland area his entire life. Ferris was an owner and operator of a grape farm throughout his life. Ferris also served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He belonged to the West Port-land Baptist Church of Portland, N.Y., and the American Legion John W Dill Post 434 of Brocton, N.Y.
He is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Diana (Carl) Hamann of West-field, N.Y., and Mrs. Dawn (Kitty) Woleben of Fredonia, N.Y.; two grand- children: Jake Hamann and Alexandria Hamann; and one sister, Mrs. Leona Tranquist of Portland, N.Y.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Nina, who passed away Dec. 6, 2008, and with her they fostered 74 children over the many years of their married life. He was also predeceased by an infant son, Harold Albert Woleben; and by his five brothers: Harlo Woleben, Arthur Woleben, DeForest Woleben, Clarence Woleben and Fredrick Woleben.
Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. on Thursday morning, June 19, 2014, from the West Portland Baptist Church in West Portland, N.Y. The Rev. Gary Henry will officiate. Full military honors will be accorded by The American Legion John W Dill Post 434 of Brocton, N.Y. Private interment will be at Westfield Union Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the Morse Funeral Home 51 Highland Ave., Brocton, N.Y., from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday June 18.
