Roger Keith Smith Jr., 47, of Mayville, N.Y., passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014, at St. Vincent's Hospital, Erie, Pa.
He was born Sept. 7, 1966, in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of Roger Keith Smith Sr. and Beverly A. Himes Wilkens.
He attended South- western High School, Cypress Lake High School and was a graduate of Jamestown Community College where he earned an associates of applied science degree in communication. He served in the U.S. Army and the National Guards serving at Ground Zero. He had been employed by the Erie VA Hospital. An excellent cook, he had also been employed by several area restaurants.
He loved cooking for family and hosting many dinners and backyard cookouts.
He attended the Community Bible Church in Mayville.
Besides his parents, he is survived by two sons: R. Keith Smith III of Falconer and Michael Keith Smith of Australia; two daughters: Alia Smith of Falconer, and Kayla Smith of Jamestown; a brother, Robert (Bridget) Smith of Ft. Myers, Fla.; a niece, Breanna Smith; a nephew, Brandon Smith; his grandmother, Pauline ''Grandma Sunshine'' Smith of Greenhurst; his ex-wife, Laura Smith of Jamestown; his in-laws: Don and Sue McKillip of Jamestown; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Roxanne Kaye Smith; his paternal grandfather, R. Keith Smith; and his maternal grandparents, Anna May and Lewis Himes.
A military memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., on Wednesday at the American Legion Henry Mosher Post 638, 132 W. Main St., Falconer. The Rev. Teets, pastor of Community Bible Church, Mayville, will officiate.
Family and friends will be received from noon-1 p.m., at the American Legion.
