Mom has left her family on earth to join her family in heaven. She is good now. She left us on June 8, 2014. After 93 years with us we sadly say goodbye.
Born in Wellborn, Fla., on Nov. 10, 1920, a Southern girl, Grace married a Yankee and moved north to western New York state, where she still has a home in Hartfield, N.Y.
Mom left behind two daughters and one son: Joyce (Joe) Hubbard of London, Ky., Jim (Charlene) Israelson of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Mary Dawson of Santa Rosa, Calif. Mom's husband, Leo (our Dad), her oldest son, Joseph, three brothers and one sister have all gone before her. Grandma was blessed with 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Her greats and great-greats affectionately called her GG.
She is survived by three sisters: Elizabeth and Barbara of Melbourne, Fla., and Mary Lou of Kissimmee, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Grace leaves behind too many friends to count. Loved by all, no one was a stranger to our Mom.
She read her Bible the first thing every morning and then she read the cartoons in the newspaper.
Mom belonged to the Chautauqua Rebekah- Stockton Star Lodge for more than 60 years. In her younger days, she was a Grey Lady at Westfield, N.Y. hospital. She was a member of the Dewittville- Hartfield United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the Lake Chautauqua Veterans of Foreign Wars and she belonged to Santa Rosa, Calif., TOPS #130 for many years.
Since her retirement, 29 years ago, Grace has spent much of her time living with her daughter Mary in Santa Rosa, and travelling the country to visit her family. Mom loved to travel, relished baking and cooking for everyone, enjoyed reading cookbooks and novels, and working on puzzles. She delighted in spoiling her granddogs.
Her last job before retiring was for the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department in Mayville, N.Y., where she was the cook and matron for 22 years.
Grace will be interned at the Mayville Cemetery.
Donations may be made
in her honor to the Dewittville-Hartfield United Methodist Church, where her memorial services will be held on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m.
