June 12, 2014
Post-Journal

Sixteen Boy Scout Councils from New York state sent representatives to the New York Capitol building recently to share with the state leadership the positive impact the Boy Scouts of America has on its communities with community service and positive programs for young people. Representing Allegheny Highlands Council in Albany was Dan Hinz, Executive Board District Chairman, Matt Hinz, Eagle Scout candidate, state Sen. Cathy Young, Eagle Scout candidate Colin Evans, and Executive Board Vice President Anthony Evans. The Allegheny Highlands Council serves Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany counties in New York, and McKean and Potter counties in Pennsylvania. The council Service Center is in Falconer, and they operate Camp Merz on Lake Chautauqua in Mayville and Elk Lick Scout Reserve in Smethport, Pa. Over 4,000 youth are served every year through 1,200 volunteer leaders, making the Allegheny Highlands Council the largest youth program in the Twin Tiers. For more information about Cub Scouts & Boy Scouts in your community, call the Scout Service Center at 665-BOYS(2697) or visit their website at www.alleghenyhighlands.org.
