Donald Mitchell Johnson, 64, of 99 Liberty St., died at 1:40 a.m. Monday (June 9, 2014), in WCA Hospital.
He was born Oct. 20, 1949, in Rockingham, N.C., the son of the Crofford Jr. and Evelyn Covington Johnson.
Donald graduated from William Penn High School in High Point, N.C., in 1968 and served in the U.S. Army from 1969-72.
Donald was employed as a policeman in Greensboro, N.C., and also worked as an assistant manager at Hollywood Video in Jamestown, N.Y. He was a member of the Blackwell A.M. E. Church where he served on the board of trustees.
He enjoyed listening to and singing gospel music and he sang well. He also enjoyed playing cards, watching professional wrestling on TV, fishing and traveling. Donald especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are his life partner with whom he made a home, Martin Swalboski of Jamestown; a son, Donald "Travis" Johnson of Greensboro, N.C.; a brother, Crofford Johnson III of High Point, N.C.; a sister, Brenda Johnson of Philadelphia, Pa.; and one granddaughter, Jala Johnson of Greensboro, N.C. He is also survived by several nephews, nieces and cousins.
