Leon Frank Zebracki, 90, of Brocton, N.Y., passed away at Absolut Care of Westfield, N.Y., on Thursday evening, June 5, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
Leon was born in Dunkirk, N.Y., on April 10, 1924, the son of the late Michael and Catherine Zebracki.
He resided in this area his entire life. Leon had been a Lathe Operator at AJ Wahl & Co. of Brocton, N.Y. for 42 years until his retirement. Leon also served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. where he received the Purple Heart for being wounded during combat.
He was a lifetime member of the American Legion John W. Dill Post 434 of Brocton, N.Y. and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Mayville, N.Y.
He loved gardening and operated the Chautauqua Dahlia Fields and Mums of Brocton for many, many years. He belonged to St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church of Brocton, where he served as an usher. Be-sides spending time with his wife and family, Leon enjoyed his many years wintering in Florida.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janice, and on May 24, 2014, they celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. Also surviving are four daughters: Julie Ann Brewer of Virginia, Jennifer (David) Strouse of Maine, Virginia (Patrick) Modglin of Florida, and Laurie (Ray) Howe of Ohio; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased in death by his many brothers and sisters: Francis, Martha, Carl, Genevieve, Belle, Stanley, Annette, Peter, Viola, Agnes, Marie, John and Helen.
A private funeral service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
