Evelyn N. Sparling Bowman, age 101, lifetime resident of Findley Lake, New York died on Saturday May 31, 2014 at Heritage Park Rehabilitation in Jamestown.
She was born on November 5, 1912 in Findley Lake, New York to the late Ray and Nettie Perdue Sparling.
Evelyn, along with her husband, the late Max M. Bowman, raised their children; Edward Bowman (Donna) of Cherry Creek, NY, Charles Bowman (Lynda) of Virginia, Carl Bowman (Mary) of Florida, Elwood Bowman (Lana) of Ripley, Larry Bowman (Jann) of Findley Lake, Maxine Fuller of Watts Flatts, NY, Edris Bowman of Ripley, and Darlene Hopkins of North East. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 59 great-great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-great-grandchildren.
Besides raising a large family, she drove and delivered coal in the Findley Lake and North East area. She was a well known housekeeper in the Findley Lake area for several families. Evelyn was also well known for her expertise in grape tying for several grape farmers in the area.
In addition to her parents and husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her siblings, Ray Sparling, Florence Markham, Ralph Sparling, Ronald Sparling, and Myrabel Belson; a son, LeRoy Bowman; daughters, Gloria Patter-nosh and Judy Lee Leeper; and an infant daughter, Judy Bowman.
Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East on Tuesday 7-9 p.m. and are invited to attend a funeral service on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Officiating is the Rev. Don Eggleston. Interment is in Grahamville Cemetery.
