William C. "Bill" Josephson, 77, formerly of Gerry, N.Y., died Tuesday in his home in New Columbia, Pa.
He was at peace and ready to make his eternal home with his Father in heaven.
He was born Feb. 11, in Stockton, a son of the late Almet and Maxine (MacCubbin) Josephson. He attended Cassadaga Valley Central School, and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1955. He served with the Army Corps of Engineers and spent most of his enlistment at the Yokihama Engineer Depot in Sigami, Japan. Bill was honorably discharged in the rank of specialist third class in May of 1958.
Upon his return to civilian life, Bill worked at several locations in Chautauqua County, but his true love was farming. Bill was a self-employed dairy farmer and additionally worked within the Cassadaga Valley School system as both a bus driver and custodial team member before finally retiring in 1999.
Bill was a lifelong member of the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department, and was involved in numerous organizations in the dairy industry. Upon moving to Pennsylvania, he attended Christ Wesleyan Church in Milton, as his health allowed.
He found great enjoyment in the outdoors, repairing and refurbishing tractors of all sizes, building computers, and most importantly, spending time with his family.
Bill is the father of five children: Janice (Jeff Holmes) of Lewisburg, Pa., Mary (Thomas Buck) of Milton, Pa., William R. of Swain, N.Y., Brenda (Bill Milbrand) of Watsontown, Pa., and Chief Master Sgt. Joy Josephson, USAF of St. Louis, Mo. He is grandfather to seven grandchildren who lovingly called him "Gramps:" Casey Wilson, Heather Buck-Booth, Bryan Buck, Jacquelyn Buck, Lauren Wakelee, Michael Josephson and Justin Imm. Bill also has seven great-grandchildren: Caroline, Rebekah and Deanna Ramsey, Dawson and Tucker Booth, Ava Buck and Aidan Weber.
Bill is survived by four brothers: Walfred (Renee), Fredric (Joan), Dana, and Almet "Toots" (Connie), all of Cassadaga; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by both his mother and father, Maxine and Almet; and two nephews: Jon and Hanley Josephson.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 5-8 p.m. and again on Saturday an hour before the service, which starts at 11 a.m., both at the Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville. A burial with military honors will be held immediately after the ceremony at the Cassadaga Cemetery, Cassadaga.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Union Snyder Agency on Aging Inc., 116 N. Second St., Lewisburg, PA 17837; the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department, Gerry; the American Heart Association.
