May 25, 2014
Post-Journal

Kyla Prindle-Cassidy, right, a Maple Grove High School senior, and Dr. Stephen Gordon of Jamestown received first-place gold medals in Kata competition at the Akiya Memorial Judo Tournament over Mother's Day weekend. "Kata" is the formal demonstration of Judo throws. Prindle-Cassidy demonstrated 30 throwing techniques against Gordon in the difficult, seven-minute demonstration. The pair also participated in sparring competition later that same day. Prindle-Cassidy received a silver medal and Gordon a bronze for those efforts. Both are members of the Shin Gi Tai Judo Club, which trains at the Jamestown Community College Total Fitness Center under the direction of certified United States Judo instructors Paul Kahanic, Richard Moon and Eric Balon.
