BUFFALO - With only six weeks remaining before the close of the 2014 Appeal in support of Catholic Charities of Buffalo, the annual campaign has raised $10,313,211 in cash and pledges, representing 95 percent of its $10.8 million goal. Appeal leaders are asking the community for their help in raising the remaining $486,789 still needed in order to reach the final goal by June 30.
The Most Reverend Richard J. Malone, bishop of the Diocese of Buffalo, said the appeal team is grateful for all the support Western New Yorkers have shown so far. He also encouraged those who have not yet donated - or are in a position to give a little more - to please do so.
"We are all familiar with the quotation 'the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step,' but such a journey also requires a push to the finish line, and our finish line is almost in sight," Malone said. "Our 90th annual appeal is slightly ahead of where it was last year, so one final push from everyone who can consider a donation to Catholic Charities, no matter what size, will help us achieve our goal so we can continue to support our neighbors in need here in Western New York."
"It appears this year's Appeal is going down to the wire and we will be working hard to ensure a successful conclusion," said Sister Mary McCarrick, OSF, diocesan director for Catholic Charities. "Our incredible results thus far reflect the commitment of our Appeal leadership team, hundreds of volunteers, our pastors and other supporters throughout the diocese. Their efforts in the remaining weeks will surely put us over the top and allow Catholic Charities to be the hearts and hands in service to nearly 138,000 people across the region's eight counties."
Michael and Maureen Pratt, 2014 appeal chairs, said donations will be gratefully received from all members of the community through June 30, the close of the appeal and the organization's fiscal year.
