MAYVILLE - Kevin Sanvidge said he was thrilled Wednesday night after being announced as the new executive director for the Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency.
Vince Horrigan, county executive, said the search for a new director was extensive, and that he had used a search team made of members from the county legislature, the IDA and the business community.
"We came to a unanimous decision that Kevin is the right guy to lead our economic development program in Chautauqua County," Horrigan said.
As a member of the board of directors for Lake Shore Savings Bank, Sanvidge also serves as chairman of the bank's Compensation Committee, and is a member of its Corporate Governance Committee. He is the former chairman of the county Chamber of Commerce's board of directors.
"Economic development is the key," Horrigan said. "I needed the strongest possible leader, and I found it in Kevin Sanvidge. I'm thrilled with his willingness to serve."
Sanvidge starts Tuesday, while Bill Daly will step down from his position and into retirement on May 31.
After Wednesday night's announcement, Sanvidge said he was looking forward to being part of Horrigan's team.
"We have one goal, and that's to make Chautauqua County a better place to live and to work," he said. "We have everything we need here natural resources, the lakes, infrastructure and a trained workforce. That's why I'm thrilled to be part of this team and move forward."
Sanvidge previously served as executive vice president of administration for Cliffstar Corporation from 1999-2011. Prior to working at Cliffstar, he worked at Al Tech Specialty Steel Corporation for 21 years, where he served in various management positions including vice president of administration.
Horrigan's search committee consisted of George Borrello, county legislator; Dave Dawson, former administrative director of the IDA; and IDA board of directors members Mike Metzger and Dennis Rak.
"I am absolutely thrilled with the choice of Kevin Sanvidge," Borrelo said. "As the chairman of the Planning and Economic Development Committee, I look forward to working with Mr. Sanvidge. His years of success in the private sector will be a tremendous asset to our economic development efforts in Chautauqua County."
"The appointment of Kevin Sanvidge will ensure strong leadership remains at the helm of our CCIDA as we carry on our mission of economic development and growth here in Chautauqua County," Metzger said.
Sanvidge earned his bachelor's degree in political science and economics at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec and presently resides in Fredonia.
