Paul Raymond Johnson, 88, a native of Jamestown, N.Y., and a Lynchburg, Va. resident for almost 12 years, passed away Friday, April 4, 2014, in his home.
Born Aug. 21, 1925, he was the son of Swedish immigrants, the late J. Albert Johnson and Anna Berg Johnson.
He was a World War II veteran, stationed in China, having enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces at the age of 17. After the war, he enjoyed a long career as an offset pressman and worked primarily for Journal Press, Inc. in Jamestown.
Active in church all of his life, he was a lifelong member of Jamestown's First Covenant Church, and more recently a member of Forest Presbyterian Church in Virginia.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Betty Marie Johnson.
He is survived by their five children: Janet L. Johnson of Forest, Daniel P. Johnson and his wife, Mary of Apalachin, N.Y., Gary A. Johnson of Forest, Dianne C. Locascio and her husband, David of Lynchburg, and Mark D. Johnson and his wife, Laurel of Lynchburg; eight grandchildren: Brita Terry, Daniel Johnson II, Rebecca DePriest, Bryan Locascio, Paul Locascio, Andrew Locascio, Lukas Johnson and Erik Johnson; and four great-grandchildren: Wesley DePriest, Zachary DePriest, Wyatt Terry and Dallas Terry.
A memorial service and celebration of Paul's life will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, May 24, 2014, at First Covenant Church, 520 Spring St., Jamestown, NY 14701, led by the Rev. Adam Rohler.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may take the form of contributions to First Covenant Church.
Due to scheduling, the graveside committal service will be on Friday, May 23, at 1 p.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery, and the family welcomes all family and friends who wish to attend.
