Ivan Legters, 90, of Clymer, N.Y., passed away Thursday, May 15, 2014, at his home.
He was born Aug. 20, 1923, in Clymer, N.Y., the son of the late Walter and Laura Dunnewold Legters.
Ivan was a graduate of Clymer Central School, class of 1941. He was a lifelong dairy farmer, retiring from farming in 1989. Following retirement, he then continued to help neigh-boring farmers. He also worked for the town of Clymer as dog warden after his retirement for 21 years.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy Legters of Clymer, N.Y., whom he married June 1, 1950; his children: Stephen (Kathy) Legters, of Lockport, N.Y., Susan (Timothy) Tarpley, Rome, Ga., Derrick (Fern) Legters, Bloomfield, N.Y.; grandchildren: Christy, Gary, Andy, Lauren, Karah, Zachary and Kendra; and great-grandson, Nikolas.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Vidal.
Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2014, at the Spitzer Funeral Home, 8728 E. Main St., Clymer, N.Y.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday May 19, 2014, at the Abbe Reformed Church, Clymer, N.Y. The Rev. Noah Livingston, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in Clymer Center Cemetery.
