PORTLAND - A high-speed interstate chase ended in a crash on Route 5 in Portland around 10:22 p.m. Thursday night.
Justin A. Baker, 20, of Erie, Pa., was sent to the Chautauqua County Jail after he attempted to flee from Pennsylvania and Chautauqua County Sheriff Deputies.
Chautauqua County Sheriff Joseph Gerace confirmed Pennsylvania State Police tried to stop Baker before he passed the border into Chautauqua County. Police tried to stop Baker on Route 5 in the town of Westfield.
"He (Baker) refused to pull over so deputies put spike strips in the road," he said. "His tires flattened and he crashed."
He did not receive any injuries due to the crash.
Deputies allege he was operating his vehicle under the influence of drugs.
Gerace added Baker is charged with two counts of third-degree unlawful fleeing from a police officer, two counts of reckless driving, driving while ability impaired by drugs and seventh-degree criminal possession of controlled substances as well as other traffic violations.
Baker is being held on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 property bond.
The reason for Baker's unwillingness to pull over is unknown.
