The 25th annual George Bataitis Open Golf Tournament will be held at Chautauqua Golf Club on May 10.
Jamestown Macadam, Inc. is the major sponsor for the tournament, a fundraiser for Jamestown Community College athletics scholarships.
The four-player scramble format tournament will award prizes in scratch and handicap in the men's and women's divisions as well as closest to the pin, men's longest drive, women's straightest drive, team skins, and hit the green contests.
Preparations are being made for the 25th annual George Bataitis Open golf tournament at Chautauqua Golf Club on May 10. From left are Keith Martin, Jamestown Community College athletic director; Mike Wellman, Jamestown Macadam secretary-treasurer; Greg Fish, JCC Faculty Student Association executive director; and Tom Olson, Jamestown Macadam vice president.
The $80 entry fee includes greens fees, golf cart, gift pack, course refreshments and lunch. A continental breakfast precedes the 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
Tournament proceeds will benefit JCC's George Bataitis Athletic Fund. When Bataitis retired in 1987 after more than 30 years of service to JCC's physical education and athletics programs, a scholarship fund was initiated in his name, with the GBO providing the funds. Tournament proceeds provide scholarships for male and female athletes attending JCC and program support for the college's physical education department.
Bataitis, considered "the father of JCC athletics," joined JCC's physical education faculty in 1956. During his tenure, he served as chair of the physical education department, director of athletes, and acting dean of students.
Participants in this year's tournament are invited to donate used golf clubs, balls and bags to the Bunkers for Baghdad program which sends the equipment to troops overseas as well as members of the Wounded Warriors Project.
