Florence A. Whitney, 85, of 640 Worth St., Corry, Pa.. died Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Corry Manor Nursing Home, Corry, Pa.
She was born Oct. 23, 1928, in Jamestown, N.Y., the daughter of the late Carl S. and Ruth E. Peterson Nelson.
Florence was a life member of the French Creek Historical Society and the National Rifle Association, and a former member of the Viking Club of Jamestown. She was also a member of the Cutting Community Church.
She is survived by a son, Lorin Cooper of Falconer, N.Y.; a daughter, Lucille Corcoran of Stockton, N.Y.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; a foster son, William L. Spoon of Lakewood, N.Y.; and two stepsons: Daniel and Ben Whitney, both of Clymer, N.Y.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver V. Whitney; a son, Frederick Cooper; grandson, Earl Lee Cooper; a stepdaughter, Renee Whitney; a brother, Donald S. Nelson; two sis-ters: Lucille Hulings and Lois Brown; and a daughter-in-law, Leona Spoon.
Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, May 4, 2014, at the Spitzer Funeral Home, 8728 E. Main St., Clymer, NY 14724. Burial will be in Cutting Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or the French Creek Historical So-ciety or the Cutting Community Church.
