NORTH HARMONY - Fire crews responded to a raging barn fire Monday afternoon that nearly spread to an adjacent home in North Harmony.
The barn - located at 2854 Carpenter-Pringle Road - was already in flames when the Ashville Fire Department arrived on the scene shortly after 3:15 p.m.
"(The fire) got a head start on us," said Mike Gleason, 3rd battalion fire coordinator for Chautauqua County. "Our first priority though was to save the (barn owner's) house."

The house was approximately 15 feet from the blaze, but firefighters succeeded in protecting it from any damage.
The owner, who was reportedly home at the time of the fire, was uninjured.
The fire was completely doused in approximately 45 minutes, according to Gleason.
No injuries were reported, but there was a significant amount of property damage, including the loss of the owner's tractor.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
The Ashville Fire Department was assisted by the Lakewood, Panama and Chautauqua fire departments.
