Maureen ''Mo'' D. Alaimo, 66, of Perris, Calif., passed away on April 13, 2014, after a long illness.
Maureen was a much-loved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law and aunt.
Mo was born September 1, 1947, in Liverpool, England, the daughter of the late Ivan and Catherine Wotton.
She moved to New York at the tender age of 16, where she worked as a nanny and later at the public library. She met the love of her life, David Alaimo, and on Sept. 30, 1972, they married. Together, they en-joyed the challenges of married life in Jamestown, N.Y., and had three beautiful children.
In 1983 she moved with her family to sunny southern California, where they lived happily for more than 10 years, and then they took on a new adventure moving to Hudson, Mass., in 1993. Mo and Dave stayed for a brief few years before returning to warmer seasons and bluer skies in southern California.
Mo was a lovely nurturer and enriched the lives of those fortunate enough to cross her path. Her dry wit and sometimes cheeky remarks would on occasion belie her genuine extremely caring and compassionate nature. Mo was remarkably intelligent and knowledgeable. She always won at trivia and knew all the right questions to Jeopardy! She enjoyed socializing and talking to strangers was a particular prized hobby. She had a unique way of making all those around her feel at ease with her upbeat attitude and positive energy.
She affirmed with absolute certainty that all living things deserved decent conversation. She enjoyed and was extraordinarily good at cultivating her garden and houseplants, and credited talking to the plants as key to her success.
She was an avid reader, especially of authors hailing from her beloved England. But most of all she adored her family, the pride of her life.
She is survived by her loving husband of more than 40 years, David A. Alaimo; her three children: Matthew D. Alaimo of Dana Point, Calif., Allison A. Alaimo and her husband, Timothy M. Loew of Worcester, Mass., and Daniel R. Alaimo and his wife, Nicole (Stevens) Alaimo of Worcester, Mass. and their children: Daniel R. Alaimo Jr. and Anthony D. Alaimo.
She also leaves behind a cherished sister, Carol Wakefield and her husband, Ronald Wakefield of Orlinda, Tenn.; sister, June Sweeney and her husband, Thomas Sweeney of Bradenton, Fla.; sister-in-law, Marie Sheffield and her husband, Lanny Sheffield of Henderson, Nev., and sister-in-law, Tina Trusso and her husband, Michael Trusso of Falconer, N.Y.; as well as many treasured nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by parents Ivan and Catherine Wotton, parents-in-law Frederick Alaimo and Alberta (Alaimo) Shute, a brother-in-law Alan Alaimo, and a sister-in-law Kindra Alaimo.
A private memorial service will be held for family and friends at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or online.
