MAYVILLE- On Sunday, the Mayville Volunteer Fire Department sponsored its third annual Easter egg hunt at Lakeside Park in Mayville, which featured its largest turnout ever.
Children and their families took advantage of the gorgeous spring weather as they gathered at the park Sunday afternoon. Children up to age 12 could be seen carrying plastic bags, Easter baskets and plastic pails. In the grass, 2,000 multi-colored plastic Easter eggs lay scattered about. Inside pieces of candy were hidden, and for those who found a golden egg, a greater sweet prize awaited.
The Easter Bunny also visited, waving to the children and their parents as the fire trucks pulled into the parking lot before getting out to hand out candy and take photos.

"We thought it would be nice to give back to the community and the kids in our community," said Janet Crandall, chairperson of the Easter Egg Hunt. "And we thought this would be a nice way to do it. Nobody really in our area has an Easter egg hunt, and I can remember when I was a kid going Easter egg hunting."
The children were separated into three groups by age. For each age group, a prize went out to the top two children who collected the most eggs. Connor Nowicki and Lucy Bullaro collected the most for ages 4 and under, Aniyah McBrite and Taylor Denato won for ages 5-8, and Gavin Sauerland and Jacey Casel were the winners for ages 9-12.
The turnout this year was the largest seen so far out of the three years the Mayville Fire Department held the hunt, according to Crandall. Families not only from Mayville came down to the Easter egg hunt, but from as far as Jamestown and Fredonia.
A raffle was held to offset the cost and to benefit the Mayville Fire Department Community Fund. The local businesses which donated services and prizes for the raffle were: Webb's Candy Shop, Light House Grocery, Chautauqua Suites, Tops Market, Mayville Diner, Crosby's Mayville, Shear Style, The Patio, The Beauty Boutique, Chautauqua Marina, Andriaccio's, Boxcar Barneys, Standard Portable, Quagliana's Bark Grill, Mayville Hardware, Brenda Houser, CC's Near the Lake and Rite Aide Pharmacy.
