Donald L Woods Sr., 77, of Portland, N.Y., passed away on April 9, 2014, at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, N.Y.
Donald was born on Jan. 24, 1937 in Portland, N.Y., to Clyde and Ruby Campbell Woods.
Don graduated from Brocton Central School in 1955. He served his country in the United States Air Force and was past commander of Brocton AMVETS Post 868 New York.
Don also worked at Dunkirk Radiation for 35 years.
Don was a member of the Portland Fire Department, a life member of Hose 4, Dunkirk, N.Y., the past president of Southwestern Association of Volunteer Fireman in 1981, FASNY Western Association of Volunteer Firemen, Chautauqua County Fire Police Association, Chapter U Motorcycle Club of Jamestown, the GWRRA, the Westfield Fish and Game Club, the Retired Bowlers, the Portland Congregational Church, the Zipping Stars and Dom Polski of Dunkirk.
Donald is survived by his children: Donald (Tammy) Woods Jr. of Ripley, N.Y., Larry (Jaime, friend) Woods of Elk Grove, Calif. and Kathy Woods of Sinclairville, N.Y.; his grandchildren: Brexton, Danika and Leeza (Gert) Lindzy, Tony and Katy Woods, and Justin and Jessica Parment; his and step-grandchildren: Tim, Luke and Briana; along with three great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Donald is also survived by his special loving friend and companion, Laura Jean Parment.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased in death by his brother, Vincent Woods and a daughter, Dawn Woods.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at 11 a.m. from the Portland Congregational Church, 8649 Church St., Portland, N.Y. The Rev. Gordon Spiller will officiate. Full military honors will be conducted by The American Legion John W. Dill Post 434 of Brocton, N.Y.
Interment will be private.
Friends are invited to call at the Morse Funeral Home, 51 Highland Ave., Brocton, N.Y., from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, April 13 and 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, April 14.
