WILLIAMSVILLE -Errors played a part in Jamestown Community Community College suffering a pair of losses in NJCAA Region 3 Division III baseball on Thursday afternoon.
The Jayhawks gave up 13 unearned runs in both games that saw Erie CC rally to win the first game by scoring six times in the seventh inning to pull out a 11-10 victory.
Then after making seven errors in the opener, the Jayhawks made three more in the second game and lost by a 7-3.
That dropped JCC's record to 5-10 overall and 1-3 in the region. Erie is 8-10 overall and 2-2 in the region.
JCC coach Dick Adams called the first game loss one of the most heart-breaking defeats of his career.
It was set up with the bases loaded and two outs. A ball was hit that the right fielder failed to make a play on and it went to the fence allowing four runs to score on a three-base error that decided the game.
Marcelo Parker carried the big stick for the Jayhawks in the opener with five RBIs on a three-run home run and a double. He also scored two runs.
Josh Allan had three hits with a RBI and Steven Sattz and Connor Farnham added doubles with Farnham's hit plating a run for the Jayhawks.
Lyle Howard worked the first five innings and allowed five hits and five unearned runs with five walks and four strikeouts. Christian VanNote suffered the defeat as he gave up two runs with one unearned with two strikeouts and a walk.
''We were just crushed after losing the first game,'' said Adams. ''We didn't have good emotions for the second game.''
The Jayhawks had seven hits in the nightcap with Parker having a double, Jeff Andrulis an RBI single and Rich Allen a triple.
Nate Starkes started the second game for the Jayhawks and went four innings in which he yielded six hits, five runs, four earned runs, four walks and three strikeouts.
Nekyle Taylor and Hunter Zimmer each went an inning with Taylor giving up two unearned runs. Zimmer struck out two and Taylor one.
JCC plays back-to-back doubleheaders at Onondaga CC Saturday and Sunday with 1 p.m. starts.
