Sam Latona, an 84-year-old Busti resident, will be lacking a rototiller following a recent property tax increase. He said he isn't happy about how the government treats the elderly concerning their property assessment and taxes. In a letter to local assemblymen, with hopes it reaches Gov. Andrew Cuomo, he said his social security and pension have gone up only $100 in the 26 years he has been retired, while expenses have only continued to rise. He feels a reduction in taxes for people over the age of 75 should be highly considered, since the older a resident gets, the greater the burden they have due to the inability to keep up with the rate of inflation. The rototiller pictured is at South Main Street Extension and Riverside Road.
