Walter G. Stanton, 88, of Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing, Gerry, died Tuesday, (April 8, 2014), at Heritage Village.
He was born June 14, 1925, in Frewsburg, the son of Earl and Bessie Braley Stanton.
He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, and had been employed by the city of Jamestown.
He was a member of the Samuel Derby Post 556 American Legion, Frewsburg, and a former member of the Rebekah Lodge, Disabled American Veterans, Jamestown Kendall Club, Thule Lodge, Jamestown Moose and the Odd Fellows.
Walter is survived by his children: Sharon (Ronald) Kane of Jamestown, Kathleen (Peter) Savaree of Buffalo, and Douglas (Rose) Stanton of Frewsburg; eight grandchildren: Lori Savaree of Frewsburg, Shawn (Kelly) Savaree of Jamestown, Zachary Kane of Indiana, Cory and Cody Kane of Jamestown, Jennifer (Mark) Tuller of Kennedy, Jeremiah Stanton of Jamestown, and Walter (Dorothy) Stanton of Randolph; nine great-grandchildren: Preston and Trenton Savaree, Sierra and Jordan Tuller, Ryan Mackie, Daltyn Stanton, Alyssa Kramer, Dylan and Courtney Brown, and a sister,Ruth Bennett of Frewsburg.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Anna Stanton; second wife, Mary Stanton; three brothers: Clayton, Calvin and Everill Stanton; and a sister, Geraldine "Jerri" Simes.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg.
The Rev. Rebecca Ehrlich, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, Frewsburg, will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Lakewood.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Thursday in the Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
