To The Reader's Forum:
I was very excited to see the article in Sunday's Post-Journal about the forum hosted by the Jamestown Department of Development, featuring Ms. Lilah Zautner of the Cuyahoga Land Bank. I do, however, want to clarify one component of her visit to Jamestown.
Ms. Zautner was invited to appear at an event about Sustainable Cities at Jamestown Community College on Thursday, March 20th. JCC featured Ms. Zautner as the speaker, and followed her presentation with a documentary called Growing Cities, which is about urban agriculture that utilizes vacant and abandoned land. This event was funded entirely by the College Program Committee of Jamestown Community College, and was free and open to all members of the public. It was also promoted by the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation as a kickoff for the Grow Jamestown Garden Fair on Saturday, March 22. Members of the JCC community and JRC worked together to extend an invitation to this event to the members of City Council and the Chautauqua County Land Bank.
Unfortunately, the members of the City Council and the Land Bank could not attend our event on Thursday night because of a previously-scheduled meeting. At that point, we facilitated a special meeting with Ms. Zautner on Friday morning at City Hall. Ms. Zautner spoke, and the documentary was given a special screening.
I am thrilled that the forum at City Hall went so well and I hope that we can facilitate more important programming about sustainable cities in the very near future! I know that the program at JCC on March 20 was very well received and generated lots of excitement amongst those attending. I hope the community will continue to watch for upcoming events at Jamestown Community College and at Jamestown Renaissance Corporation.
Thank you so much for your time and attention.
