FALCONER - The fifth inning became the ''seventh inning'' for Falconer in non-league baseball Thursday afternoon.
With the rain coming down, the umpires told both teams that the fifth inning would be the last one and Falconer (2-0) made the most of it by rallying for three runs to pull out a 7-6 win over Cassadaga Valley.
Trailing 6-4, Gib Stuart led off the fifth with his second solo home run to slice the deficit to 6-5. Singles by Kyle Petersen and Tommy Fales along with a hit batsman in Zak Mata filled the bases for A. J. Genco, who smashed a two-run single for the victory.
Stuart also had a triple to go along with two homers for three hits and three RBIs. Petersen added a triple and a single and Genco contributed two hits for Falconer.
Cassadaga Valley scored all six runs in the fourth inning with Matt Hallowell hitting a two-run double, Shane Parsons a two-run single, Nick Peterson a run-scoring single and another crossed on a passed ball.
Hallowell finished with two hits for Cassadaga Valley.
Mata was the winning pitcher with two innings of relief.
