George R. (Dick) Legters, 95, of Pinellas Park, Fla., formerly of Clymer and Findley Lake, N.Y., died Monday, March 31, 2014.
He was born Aug. 14, 1918, in Clymer, N.Y., to the late George H. and Florence Damcott Legters.
Dick graduated from Clymer High School, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 3rd Armored Division in France, Belgium and Germany.
He retired after 35 years with the former Corry Jamestown Corporation, Corry, Pa., where he was a supervisor. After moving to St. Petersburg, Fla., he retired again after six years with the former Ross Chevrolet.
Dick served for 15 years on the Clymer Central School board, was a 60-year member of Olive Lodge 575 F&AM in Sherman, N.Y., and was a member of the Community Bible Baptist Church in St. Petersburg, Fla.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Kress Legters on Sept. 21, 2010; stepson, Timothy Engel on Sept. 20, 2003; and his brother, Robert Legters on Feb. 23, 1973.
Dick is survived by his daughter, Frances Fair (Mike) of Ashville, N.Y.; son, George Legters (Majel) of Satellite Beach, Fla.; stepdaughter, Carole Higley (Leonard) of Sarasota, Fla.; five grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 S. Lake St., North East, Pa., on Friday at noon until time of a funeral service at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Dr. Mark Hecht will be officiating. Interment at Grahamville Cemetery.
