George H. "Butch" Butcher, 66, of Gerry, died Monday, March 24, 2014, at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born May 13, 1947, in Silver Creek, he was the son of the late Hezekiah D. and Mabel Perkins Butcher. He was a 1965 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School.
From 1963-72 Butch and his father owned and operated a dairy farm and H.D. Butcher and Son Milk Hauling. He drove truck for Peterson Agway for 20 years and for the town of Gerry from 1992 until his retirement in 2012.
A life member of the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department, he served as an EMT, first aid instructor, assistant chief, chief, New York state fire warden, member of the Chautauqua County Search Team, town of Gerry Planning Board and life member of the NRA.
Butch enjoyed horseback riding, fishing, hunting and shooting. He loved his bloodhound, Belle, and treasured time with his grandchildren.
Husband of 47 years to Barb Wooley Butcher, whom he married Sept. 2, 1966; father of Tracy (Martha) Butcher, Shelly (Doug Jaquith) Little and Becky Smith, all of Gerry; grandfather of Emily, Kelly and Matt Butcher, Dylan, Justin and Abby Little and Bryce Smith; brother of the late Joann Lippert; and brother-in-law of Donna (Art) Anderson of Ocala, Fla. He is also survived by nephews and nieces.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute or the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department or Gerry United Methodist Church.
