The deadline for the free rodeo camp on April 26, sponsored by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association at the Gerry Fire Department's rodeo facilities, has been set for April 23, but entries will close earlier if the maximum number of 40 participants is reached prior to that date.
This event is open at no cost to anyone at least 8 years old, from beginners to those just starting to participate in rodeo, who are interested in learning more about the rough stock events of rodeo from some of the top champion cowboys from across the nation. Among the subjects covered are chute procedures, safety, riding equipment, fitness, nutrition, injury prevention, and livestock care. There will be no live buckouts.
The Gerry Rodeo’s free rodeo camp gives participants the opportunity to learn from top pro cowboys.
Rodeo chairman Tom Atwell says this is a great opportunity for the area as there are only 12 of these rodeo camps across the country this year, with only two of those held east of the Mississippi.
The event will begin at 9 a.m. in the Gerry Fire Hall and later move to the rodeo arena, concluding at 3 p.m. A free lunch will be served.
Applications must be completed on-line at www.prorodeo.com/youthrodeo.aspx or by going to www.gerryrodeo.org and clicking on Youth Rodeo Camp. Additional information is available by contacting the camp director Julie Jutten by email at email@example.com or by phone at (719) 528-4729.
This summer will mark the 70th consecutive annual PRCA rodeo sponsored by the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department with five performances from July 30 through Aug. 2. Rodeo tickets are now on sale at ticketfly.com
