Area high school seniors, their parents and the surrounding community received a healthy sampling of what Jamestown Community College has to offer.
The college's Jamestown campus hosted its annual "Explore JCC" event, a campus fair which featured information on the academic programs and student services offered by the two-year institution, at the Hamilton Collegiate Center's student union on Saturday. Representatives from several of JCC's academic departments were on hand to answer questions and provide attendees with information specific to their programs.
Throughout the event, 30-minute presentations were administered on a variety of topics, including: financial aid, campus living, study-abroad programs, undecided students, internships, the honors program and transferability. A student panel also gave attendees a first-hand account of the JCC experience from those who are currently enrolled there.

According to Nelson Garifi, director of marketing and academic initiatives, the Explore JCC event typically draws between 250 and 300 attendees, the majority of which end up enrolling at JCC.
"It's just a great opportunity to showcase everything we have," Garifi said. "March is a really key decision-making time for students when they're looking at college options. And this helps people zero in on the real value of JCC when they see what's out there in terms of the expenses of a college education, and what a great pathway JCC can be to a bachelor's degree and master degree."
In addition to Saturday's event, Garifi said JCC also hosts a smaller open house event in October and a larger one in November. The events are open to the community, and Garifi said he will occasionally come across community members who have been out of high school for several years and, for whatever reason, are looking for a career change or a fresh start.
"It's great to talk to those individuals. I think everyone who comes here, leaves a little bit more excited and with a sense of renewed hope and optimism," he said.
The event concluded with breaking off of attendees into groups for hour-long guided tours of the campus, offering a glimpse of JCC's buildings, facilities and the classrooms in which prospective students can expect to embark upon their higher learning experience.
