Velma D. Nagle, of Ashville, N.Y., lost her battle with cancer on Friday, March 14, 2014, at WCA Hospital in Jamestown, N.Y.
Velma was one of the triplet daughters born to Ben and Bernice Westcott Schruis on Jan. 30, 1937, at the family home in North Clymer, N.Y.
Velma graduated from Panama Central High School in 1954. She worked for Westinghouse in Buffalo for more than 25 years. Upon retirement, she moved to Ashville working at Chautauqua Lake Sewer District. On June 26, 1993, Velma married Gilbert Nagle. Gib and Velma kept an exotic animal farm in Gowanda, N.Y. They hosted several open barns and also took the animals to various community events. After the death of her husband, Velma moved back to Ashville where she enjoyed going to auctions, barn and yard sales, selling items on Ebay. She was often seen working in her and her sisters yards.
Surviving Velma are: her cat, Skipper; nieces and nephews, Diane Walley and Tim Walley of Puyallup, Wash., Kendall Foster, of Cherryvale, Kan., Karen Taylor, of Bonney, Wash., and Daniel (Cari) Foster of Overland Park, Kan.; four stepchildren, Cynthia (William) Sutherland of Gowanda, N.Y., Nancy (Robert) Tuttle of Culpepper, Va., Wendy Nagle of Gowanda, N.Y., and Gary (Mary Anne) Nagle of Webster, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Precededing Velma in death are her husband, Gilbert Nagle, who passed September of 2005; two sisters: Vera Schruis died 1937 and Virginia Lang died Dec. 31, 2013; brother, Frank Schruis died May 2005, and Nephew Duane Foster died February 1959.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. March 20, 2014, at the Spitzer Funeral Home, 8728 E. Main St. Clymer, N.Y. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
