Audrey E. Peterson, 79, of Cherry Creek, passed away Monday (March 10, 2014), at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Audrey was born Nov. 21, 1934, in Jamestown, the daughter of the late John (Jack) and Eunice Baker Wensley.
Audrey attended Falconer Central School, and later worked for years on the custodial staff at the same school. Before her illness prevented her from doing so, she so very much enjoyed being a part of the fellowship at Fluvanna Community Church.
Audrey was a very loving and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, and will be greatly missed.
God gave Audrey the gift of loving others unconditionally, and she generous-ly shared this gift with those around her.
Surviving is her husband, James F. Peterson, whom she married April 26, 1980. She is also survived by a daughter, Sharon Purdy of Jamestown; two sons: Victor (Sue) Digirolamo of Panama, and David (Barbara) Digirolamo of Jamestown; five stepsons: Scott (Paula) Meekins of Bemus Point, James Peterson Jr. of Westfield, Steve Peterson of Panama, Randy Peterson of Panama, and Brian (Di-ane) Peterson of West Ellicott. She had a combined total of 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She also survived by a sister, Jacklyn (James) Hopkins of Bemus Point.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene H. Wensley in May 1983; a sister, Autumn L. Olson in December 1978, and a sister-in-law, Joyce Northrop Wensley in July 1999.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Rev. Dayle Keefer, pastor of Fluvanna Community Church, will officiate. Inurnment will be in Pine Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Friends will be received by the family from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
