ELLICOTTVILLE - Tragedy has hit the campus of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and Warren, Pa.
Twenty-one-year-old Connor English, an environmental studies major at the school, was snowboarding on an undisclosed trail at Holiday Valley when, according to Jane Eshbaugh, resort marketing director, he lost control and hit a tree, sometime around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
English was transported to Olean General Hospital by ambulance. He was pronounced dead at 3:21 p.m.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends," Eshbaugh said. "We are saddened by the tragic occurrence and loss of life."
An autopsy determined the cause of death to be internal bleeding from blunt-force trauma. According to reports, English was wearing a helmet when the accident happened.
According to a release from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, several students from the school were at Holiday Valley as part of a ski class, but English was not a part of that group.
"My thoughts and prayers are with Connor's family and friends as well as others who have been touched by this tragic loss," said Pat Frantz Cercone, university spokeswoman. "Our staff members in the Offices of Counseling and Health Services, along with members of the Student Affairs and Resident Advisors, will continue to be available to provide support to our students and other members of our campus community...in the days to come."
