On Monday, Gregory's Hair Design will celebrate 20 years of business, and Judy DiGregorio, owner, will do so with her customers throughout March with a Customer Appreciation Month.
Ever since she was young, DiGregorio knew she wanted to be a hair stylist. Growing up in Frewsburg, she always enjoyed expressing her creativity through various of different mediums, hair being one of them.
"I just always knew that it was something I wanted to do," she said. "I'm creative ... it's just something I felt I could be creative in my job."
Gregory’s Hair Design owner Judy DiGregorio is pictured with her first customer, Steven Cobb.
After earning her cosmetology license at the Hewes Occupation Center in Ashville, she took some courses at Jamestown Business College before working for a local salon for six years. Eventually she, with the support and faith of her husband, purchased the building at 517 Pine St., which was built in the 1900s, and lived upstairs for 15 years.
DiGregorio says she owes a lot to David DiTullio, owner of A&A Beauty Supply in Lockport, and Marcia Gustafson, the manager of the store in Jamestown.
"(DiTullio) was a huge contribution to my opening when I first started," she said. "He offers continued education with hair coloring classes - there is one that really stuck out to me, and was a huge factor in my business with the hair painting class he had."
She cited the classes he offered as a great help in continuing her education - which are not explicitly required for her field, but they are needed if a stylist wants to keep up.
DiGregorio also wants to thank her customers, whom she had built strong bonds with over the years.
"Their friendships are really important," she said. "They are like family."
As part of her Customer Appreciation Month, DiGregorio will be offering giveaways, drawings and gift certificates.
DiGregorio has many services including hair coloring, perms, cuts, hair styling and waxing. She is available by appointment only, and can be reached at 397-1480.
