Michael Howard Peterson of the Cherry Creek Nursing Home, Aurora, Colo., (formerly of Lakewood, N.Y.), passed away Dec. 28, 2013, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
He was born in Newark, N.J., March 19, 1948, to Carl Howard Peterson and Alice Rosie (Johnson) Peterson, who preceded him in being promoted to glory in heaven.
Michael attended and graduated from Southwestern Central School, playing for the football and baseball teams as quarterback and catcher. He also participated in the school band. He was a member of the Jamestown Temple Corps of the Salvation Army and was a valued cornet player, before leaving for school in Colorado.

He graduated from Jamestown Community College and Western State College of Colorado, Gunnison.
Prior to his illness, Michael was employed by Continental Airlines in Denver, Colo.
Mike loved all sports and loved tennis. He was an avid cyclist and skier, which drew him to attend college in Colorado.
He is survived by a wife and stepdaughter: Teresa and Maxine Potter of Aurora, Colo.; a brother, Jeffrey Peterson of Fredonia, N.Y.; a sister, Lisa Eckstrom (Timothy) of Jamestown, N.Y.; an aunt, Betty Soderstrom of Jamestown, N.Y.; a nephew, Robert Eckstrom of Fredericksburg, Va.; a niece, Karen Eckstrom of Rochester, N.Y., a niece, Amanda McDonald of Galt, Calf.; and many cousins.

There was a small memorial service, attended by family and friends, on Jan. 14, 2014, at his brother's bed and breakfast, the Edwards Waterhouse Inn, 71 Central Ave., Fredonia, N.Y.
