Police and U.S. Postal Service inspectors charged three city residents Tuesday after discovering a six-pound package of marijuana addressed to their residence.
According to the Jamestown Police Department, Kelvin Thomas, 31, Saran Best, 30, and Iesha Strudwick, 22, were taken into custody after the department's SWAT team, the New York State Police and postal inspectors executed a search warrant at their 352 Foote Ave. residence.
The bust was the culmination of a joint investigation between the agencies, beginning with the postal inspectors identifying the suspicious package earlier in the week and its original mailing address of Texas.
Postal inspectors conducted a controlled delivery of the package by physically dropping off the package at the residence. Once the package was delivered, SWAT team members and investigators entered and located the package.
"Six pounds is quite a lot," said Captain Robert Samuelson, division commander of the Jamestown Police Department. "We usually don't see that much."
When asked if similar operations with U.S. Postal Service inspectors have occurred in the past, Samuelson said, "it's not common."
"I would say (these types of operations) have occurred three to four times in the past five years."
