Police and emergency officials responded to a two-car collision in the city Tuesday that caused one car to lose control and crash into a nearby building.
According to the Jamestown Police Department, Ernest Strickland, 67, of Jamestown, was traveling eastbound on Cole Avenue at approximately 12:52 p.m. when he allegedly passed through a red light to make a left turn onto Foote Avenue.
Another driver-a 73-year-old Lakewood man whose name was not released-was traveling northbound on Foote Avenue when it struck Strickland's Lexus R-35, causing both vehicles to spin around at the intersection.
The Lakewood man's Ford Taurus reportedly swerved in a westbound direction and crashed through the brick wall of Dr. Andrew C. Kohl's orthodontics office, located at 660 Foote Ave.
The office sustained heavy damage, police said.
The Jamestown Fire Department used lumber to stabilize the office wall because of falling bricks, eventually freeing the Lakewood man by using a Hurst tool. The office is reportedly closed due to the damage.
The Lakewood man sustained not life-threatening injuries and was transported to WCA Hospital by ambulance.
Strickland refused medical treatment at the scene. He was charged with passing a red light and will appear in city court later this month.
