The President's Day Weekend Winter Festival annual Medallion Treasure Hunt, sponsored by Northwest Savings Bank, Maple Inn, Chautauqua Suites Meeting & Expo Center, Webb's Year Round Resort and Webb's Captain's Table Restaurant officially begins today.
The approximately 3-by-5-inch Treasure Hunt Medallion (created especially for the 2006 festival by artist David Stutzman from a naturally shed elk antler), has been hidden somewhere in Chautauqua County on public property. Placed in plastic for its protection from the elements, the medallion bearing the I.C.E. logo is not hidden below ground level and no higher than 6 feet above ground level. It is not hidden on any body of water or in the water. Treasure hunters seek at their own risk. Please note that Winter Festival Committee members as well as last year's 2013 winner are not eligible to participate. All previous winners can participate in the Treasure Hunt. Daily clues will be given today through Friday and Monday, Feb. 10 through Friday, Feb. 14, in The Post-Journal, OBSERVER and on local radio stations. They will also appear as a weekly review of the past week's clues in the Westfield Republican and Mayville Sentinel News.
Per the rules, treasure hunters needed to have registered by the Feb. 2 deadline in order to be eligible to win the prize of $250 cash and to be entered in weekly prize drawings for all those who registered.
The person or persons locating the medallion should immediately call the Mayville/Chautauqua Community Chamber of Commerce office at 753-3113. The winner will be announced at the President's Day Weekend Winter Festival.
Plan on visiting Mayville for the 2014 President's Day Weekend Winter Festival Feb. 14-16, at Lakeside Park on the shores of Chautauqua Lake. There will be many winter activities and events, contests with prizes, food and craft vendors, children's activities, fireworks and more. For a schedule of events, visit www.mayvillechautauqua.org or call the chamber office at 753-3113.
