Susan passed away on Jan. 10, 2014, at age 64, after more than 30 years battling multiple sclerosis.
She was a resident of Park River Care Center, Coon Rapid, Minn., for almost 10 years.
Susan was born June 23, 1949, in Buffalo, N.Y., to Peter J. Smith and Ruth L. (Marter) Smith. She married H.T. (Harry) Taber in 1987, in Hawaii.

Susan spent most of her younger life in Jamestown, N.Y. There she excelled as a student and was a cheer-leader, while participating in many other activities.
After high school, she attended SUNY Fredonia, where she majored in elementary education, and continued cheerleading.
She graduated in 1971. She was in Who's Who Among College Students her senior year.
Susan's first teaching job was in St. Petersburg, Fla.
After a couple of years, she moved to Minnesota, teaching in the Anoke- Hennepin school system.
She taught mostly first grade, and eventually earned a master's degree from the University of Minnesota, before multiple sclerosis forced her to go on disability. She loved her family and friends, teaching, traveling, reading, bowling, and watching movies and sports, including baseball, football and basketball. Her chocolate chip cookies were legendary.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jamestown. Susan was preceded in death by her parents. Besides her husband, Harry, she is survived by a brother, Robert M. Smith (Nancy); four children: Eleanor, Peter, Bryce and Virginia; a great-niece, Stella; her stepmother, Joan Smith; a sister-in-law, Goldie Taber of Anoke, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews in Minnesota.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
