BUSTI - After nearly 40 years as Busti town clerk, Diane VanDewark has passed the torch to Darlene Nygren. In order to say "thank you" for all of VanDewark's hard work, Busti has decided to throw her a retirement party.
"She started as a bookkeeper in the mid 1970s," said Randall Holcomb, assessor for Busti. "She served in that position for approximately 20 years, and then for the last almost 20 years she served as the elected town clerk."
"Diane's knowledge of the town of Busti, its history, her accuracy of balancing a town budget or tax roll effortlessly will forever be unmatched," said town Supervisor Jesse Robbins in a speech read on her behalf. "Diane's dedication to those she has worked with over the years and the people of the town of Busti is incredible."
Diane VanDewark swears in Darlene Nygren as the new Busti town clerk.
Dinner will be catered, and the menu will include beef on weck, scalloped potatoes, dessert and a soft drink.
After dinner, various people will be giving tributes to VanDewark.
The event will be free to the public, and starts at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, in the Busti Fire Hall at 886 Mill Road in Jamestown. Reservations should be made to Nygren at 763-8561 by Thursday.
